Dying of wanting to experience the thrill of zip lining over the rain forest, made me flew over 2000 miles to San Jose, Costa Rica. It was my first time in Costa Rica, so I took a guided zip line course. The zip line course took place in the nearest cloud forest from the central valley and in the foot hill of Barva volcano, Heredia.
There are thirteen platforms, eleven of those are constructed around gigantic oak trees. The zip lines are made of galvanized stainless steel cable run from 60 to 600 feet. The zip line course started with a demonstration on how to hook and unhook your harness, zip safely and how to slow down and move in case you get stuck in the middle of zip line. Worst case scenario, one of a guide will come to rescue and push you so you can move if you get stuck in the middle of the zip line.
After a short demonstration, I walked with a group of people on elevated trails that join the platforms together to start zip lining. Along the way I saw fern, orchid, oak trees and hollow trunk of an old strangulating Ficus tree. As I reached the platform, one of guide was waiting there to hook my harness to stainless steel cable and pushed me off to the air. Soaring above the cloud forest while looking down was such a thrilling experience. It felt like my dopamine levels were rising and I had an adrenaline rush at the same time. It was exhilarating! I totally recommend this activity. So all of you thrill seekers out there, the zip line is calling your name!
