Central park has been featured on so many movies, from Serendipity to Sex and the city. This iconic park is definitely a must see when you are in Manhattan. Whether you are a tourist or a local, central park will never cease to entertain you. Regardless of the season, you can always find something to do in Central Park. Here for the start:
- Visit the Belvedere castle
Belvedere castle is a tiny castle with free entrance. It was built as an additional feature of Central Park. It has the observation deck overlooking the great lawn. If you make it to this castle, make sure you climb the stairs all the way to the observation deck to catch a view of sprawling central park.
- Ice skating at the Wolman Rink
During the cold months, try ice skating at the Wolman Rink. The view is amazing with skyscraper on the background.
- Stroll along the Shakespeare’s garden
A big statue of Shakespeare will greet you as you enter the Shakespeare’s Garden. The pathway inside the Shakespeare’s garden is shadowed by trees on both sides and decorated with benches underneath them. This pathway is perfect for strolling.
- Jog around the reservoir
If you are into jogging, the trail around reservoir is perfect for you to try. This 1.58 mile track loops is one of the most popular jogging spot in the world.
- Have a lunch at Loeb boat house
The boathouse is a restaurant overlooking the lake. It is a perfect place for lunch or brunch.
Sometimes it gets so crowded, so it is better to call them and reserve it ahead of time.
- Row a boat in the pond
You can rent a rowboat at Loeb boathouse for only 12 bucks. If you are too lazy to do all the leg work, then you can always rent a Venetian gondola to enjoy the lake and have a lovely day.
- Biking through the central park
You can bring your own bike or rent a bike from a rental place a couple block from central park.
If you are a tourist and you are not familiar with the park, you can also book a guided biking tour with the rental place. It can be a little bit crowded on weekend, but I truly enjoyed biking thru central park
- Picnic on the great lawn
Summer or spring is a perfect time to do a picnic on the great lawn. The green area covered by the grass also used for sun bathing spot by New Yorker. During the summer month, you can catch a free movie on the lawn, just bring your lawn chair or a picnic blanket.
- Horseback riding
There’s a stable nearby central park where you can take a horseback riding guided tour inside the central park.
- Ride a horse drawn carriage
Wanting a romantic experience or to impress your date? Then take a ride on a horse drawn carriage. You can book them on the spot. They are easily found outside the central park along 5th avenue.
